PLCA Geocache Summer 2021 Hunt

Are you looking for ways to discover our beautiful Paudash Lake area this summer?

Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is a family friendly outdoor game. It is often referred to as “treasure hunting with a high tech twist” because you use the Geocaching app on your smartphone. There is no charge to play.

A geocache (cache) is a container that someone has hidden. Inside the container are little treasures - you never know what you’ll find! The owner of the cache records the coordinates (location) online so that you can find it. When you find it, you sign your user name inside, record your find on the app, then go find another cache.

Geocachers practice "Cache in, Trash out."  Be respectful to the environment.

How to play?

Download the free Geocaching app for iphone or android and follow the instructions to open up an account. Choose a user name that you will sign the logs with, and a password. You can purchase a premium membership to get extra benefits, but it’s not necessary to start playing. Start with the free one and see how it goes.

Objective There are 25 caches around Paudash Lake.

Enter “Paudash Lake” into the map box on the app to see where the caches are (map below for reference). Choose one by clicking on it. When you’re ready to go find it, click “navigate” and your phone’s GPS will navigate to the spot. When you get close, you’ll have to use your own powers of deduction to find the cache!

When you find it, click “Log” and enter your message.

Note that if you have trouble there is a “Hint” option and also a “Description” of the location. Also, if you read some of the previous finders messages (under “Activity”), you may get a clue there as well.

Be one of the first 40 people to show they have found 10 of the 25 area caches and you will receive a $5 gift certificate from the Paudash Lake Marina store redeemable for any store purchases… ice cream, candy, or anything else.

Winners - to be awarded a prize, make sure you have logged your finds in the app. 10 finds, and you are a winner. Send an email to gordchong@rogers.com with your username, full name, a list of the geocaches you have found around our lake so your finds can be confirmed.

Once Gord confirms your finds you will be informed via email and you can pick-up your prize at the Paudash Lake Marina. Good Luck and Happy Caching!
