DONATE TO OUR LOCAL FOOD BANK
The local food bank (North Hastings Community Cupboard) needs our support more than ever, as the COVID19 virus effects the health, jobs and security of our community members.
The PLCA is gathering donations on behalf of the food bank until April 30, 2020. We encourage a minimum donation of $35, which is the cost of an annual PLCA membership, but if you’re in a position to donate more, please do: the number of families accessing the food bank has risen dramatically. This is the time to support our community!
Tax receipts will be issued for all donations of $20 or more.
We are big supporters of the North Hastings Community Fish Hatchery (who stock Paudash Lake with lake trout every year!) so we want to share this invitation to their upcoming Valentine’s Fundraiser. We hope you can support them so they can continue to do this important work for our community!

The Canadian Lakes Loon Survey of Birds Canada tracks the pulse of Loon and lake health across the country. Families, lake property owners, and those who enjoy fishing or boating can all help monitor and steward the health of their favourite lake. By participating in the Canadian Lakes Loon Survey they will take their recreational activities to another level – active participation in science towards conservation.

With the increased focus on green energy and the desire to keep our planet clean, electric vehicles (EVs) certainly have their appeal. However, as cottage owners, many people are concerned about whether or not they will be able to make the distance in an EV. And then there’s the concern about how and where to charge.
Lake trout are often compared to the “canary in the coal mine”; our early warning of oxygen starved, polluted water. I took these concerns to David Flowers, the area Fish Biologist in Minden; Bob Bergman, the head Fish Biologist at the provincial office in Peterborough, and Peter Schleifenbaum at Haliburton Forest where the issue had already been addressed.
